5.25” diameter and 3.5” tall
This is one of the most common types of maple tree in the southeastern united states but the process of spalting is what makes this wood come alive with visual interest. Spalting is part of the decay process involving fungal colonies that are active in decomposing a tree to the soil from whence it came. I often allow this species to decay for more than 2 years before working with it so that nature’s art is more vibrantly seen in this species. This piece is really nice. The amber tones as well as the spalting lines make this piece a real keeper.
