While not technically a cedar, this species is among my favorite to work with. It fills my shop with a pleasing aroma and the fantastic contrast between the burgundy colored heartwood and the lighter colored sapwood is absolutely gorgeous.
This particular piece has so much to commend it. It has several areas with my signature “stitching” process. I inlay banches from the same type of tree and then create a dark fill around these branches with a paste of epoxy and coffee grounds. It also had a mouth at the top that I have only recently begun to experiment with. It has a concave descent into the hollow portion of the form that I find absolutely alluring.
