8.5” tall by 8.5” diameter

This fantastic form is from a species of wood that presents these specular red hues when the tree is in distress, usually from insect invasion. The tree produces a chemical to drive out the infestation and that chemical turns red inside the wood. But this piece has more going for it than just the red coloration. The grain characteristics in this piece are fantastic with varied presentations.  It is oriented in such a way so that you can see the growth rings on the side of the piece.
