10” tall by 6” diameter

Also known as American Ash, this species has a proud legacy in the U.S. Firstly,… it is the wood of American’s pastime, baseball!  Most baseball bats for the Major Leagues are made from White Ash.  This particular piece, was rescued from a firewood pile in North, GA. You can see the amount of decay that had befallen this piece so its a “rescue” for sure. The dark lines, known as zone lines, are mineral deposits left by very active fungal colonies at work in the decomposition of this piece and the dark staining is evidence of further decay. I worked to arrest and preserve this work for your appreciation. This piece is one of my favorites, owing to its “near death” experience. LoL
